Updates From The Midpack

There has been a lot of exciting stuff happening here at Midpack Runner over the last few weeks. Unfortunately, it’s all kept me quite busy, hence the lack of updates.

Sorry about that.

Now that the dust is starting to settle, you’re going to start hearing a lot more from me. And I’ll start it off with an update on just what the heck has been keeping me away from the pack.

And The Winner Is…

Winning!
First, a huge thank you to all the runners who participated in Midpack Runner’s inaugural virtual 5K. Everyone who ran did a fantastic job.

I notified the winners last week, and just got confirmation that the prizes are on their way.

The two winners of the signed copies of Bart Yasso’s My Life on the Run, drawn at random, were Max Melvin and Bonnie Galvin.

Meanwhile, Joseph Lubaway finished smack dab in the center of the pack and will be receiving an autographed copy of Chris Russell’s The Mid-Packer’s Lament.

Congratulations again to Max, Bonnie, and Joseph. And a huge thank you to everyone else who participated!

Facelift Time!

The second bit of big news is that I’ve been in the midst of a pretty massive overhaul of the site. That probably won’t go live until closer to the end of July (for reasons I’ll explain shortly), but has been a pretty big time-sink nonetheless.

The first thing to appear will be the fantastic new logo that I’ve been working with the talented Andrew Dernavich to finalize. Look for that to go live on the Midpack Runner twitter and facebook pages sooner than the full rebuild here.

In addition to the visual updates coming, there will be several functional updates that will make it easier to find the things you’re looking for here on the site. I know that’s been my number one complaint for a long time. And I’ve certainly heard from several other people on the matter as well.

So, look for that update coming soon. And, in the interim, send me your comments and suggestions for features you’d like to see me keep, and those you’d like to see added.

Midpack Runner Goes Cuckoo For Koko

Koko FitClub LogoFinally, in a bit of exciting personal news, as of the end of July, I’ll be joining the ranks of the fine folks at Koko FitClub.

For those of you who have been following the genesis of MidpackRunner, you know that my prime directive is making fitness fun and accessible without the guilt and judgement that most people associate with the “hardcore” fitness community.

Conveniently enough, this philosophy gels perfectly with the Koko ethos.

For the uninitiated, Koko FitClub is a completely unique fitness experience. Their Koko Smartraining System™ is like having an automated personal trainer guiding you through your workout routine. Plus, if you’re a stats geek like me (if you own a Garmin, you probably are), the system tracks your workouts in real-time and lets you monitor your progress.

There’s plenty more cool stuff in their pipeline, but I don’t want to steal anyone’s thunder. Let’s just say that this is one fast-growing fitness company to keep your eyes on.

As for the practical considerations of this change, Midpack Runner won’t be affected. Well, it won’t be affected aside from having the insight of a ton of wicked smart fitness types to draw on moving forward.

As one final ask on my part, if any of you have tips for running in my soon to be hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, please clue me in in the comments below.

Thanks! Regular posting resumes Monday.

  1. Congrats on the new job! Sounds like a cool gig. I apologize in advance for any harassment from fellow Masshole drivers when you’re running in Boston. If running at 5am & dodging turkeys is more your thing, you’re always welcome to join me in the burbs.

Looking forward to the new design (really, which makes me a big nerd)

Thanks, Kat! At the start, I think I’ll try to stick to the trails. Need to learn how Massholes drive before I’m willing to put myself in their paths. I may take you up on turkey dodging, depending on how much less aggressive they seem. ;)
